Material from this pegmatite was scavenged, as ornamental rock, for about 80 years. In Casper, there's hardly a city block without some. So, I thought it would be interesting to take a stroll and see just what fluorescence material I'd find.
My wife and I had a great time walking. We scared a few dogs and some deer. Greeted the other curious late night walkers. And we found some fluorescent material from other sources. But little of the pegmatite material was fluorescent.
It seems most of the fluorescence is localized in the pegmatite - serpentinite contact, a zone that wasn't exploited by the limited mining efforts there. And most of the scavenged material came from the amorphous core of the pegmatite.
